What you can and cannot do with the Design Huddle MCP Server

The Design Huddle MCP Server allows supported AI assistants to access and manage information in your Design Huddle environment using natural-language requests.

The MCP Server is intended for Admin use only. It is not designed for standard Design Huddle users to manage their own Projects or account activity through an AI assistant.

Available actions may vary based on your Design Huddle package, administrator permissions, AI platform, and MCP connection.

Manage accounts and users

Admins can use the MCP Server to:

• Find, create, and update accounts and users
• Create multiple accounts or users from CSV data
• Assign an Account Admin to an account
• Activate, archive, or restore users and accounts
• Send welcome emails to users

For example, an admin can ask the MCP to create users from a CSV, restore an archived user by email address, or assign a User or Account Admin to a specific account.

Manage Projects and Templates

Admins can use the MCP Server to:

• Find, create, rename, and tag Projects
• Lock Projects via a specific locking Profile
• Find and filter Templates
• Import and publish a Template from a PDF, .AI (Illustrator), PNG, or JPG
• Archive or restore Projects and Templates
• Add images or videos into zones in Projects
• Update a Template’s source Project and republish it
• Retrieve and update supported design metadata

Archived records are excluded from searches by default. To find an archived Project, Template, user, or account, include that requirement in your request.

Manage assets in existing brands and libraries

The MCP Server can work with brands and asset libraries that have already been created. This includes listing existing brands and libraries, uploading or updating assets, and archiving assets.

When making changes to Templates that use an asset, narrow your request using a category, brand, status, or another filter. Broad requests may require the MCP to inspect Templates individually.

View basic activity reports

Admins can request aggregate activity statistics for a specified date range. Reporting can be scoped to:

• The entire Design Huddle environment at the global or system level
• A specific account
• A specific user

Available aggregate metrics include active users, total Projects or Project creations, Project exports, and other available general activity totals.

Example reporting prompts include:

• “How many Projects did user sam@example.com create between August 1 and August 15?”
• “How many Projects were exported from the Test account this month?”
• “How many users were active across the entire environment last quarter?”
• “Show me the general activity statistics for the Test account from July 1 through July 31.”
• “Show me the available global activity totals for the past 30 days.”

A request for one metric will generally return that individual number. A broader request for general statistics may return multiple available aggregate metrics.

Basic reports return counts or general aggregate statistics. They do not return row-level lists of users, Projects, Templates, exports, or activity records.

The MCP Server currently cannot:

• Be used as a standard end-user tool for users to manage their own Design Huddle activity
• Create brands, asset libraries, or user groups
• Provide detailed or row-level reporting, full usage analytics, login history, or audit history
• Return reporting results as lists of individual users, Projects, Templates, exports, or activity records
• Directly find every Project or Template that uses a specific asset across your entire environment
• Restore guest-user Projects after the 30-day retention period
• Manage internal Design Huddle settings or access cross-client information
• Automatically configure every user-profile or personalization workflow that requires Template Customization Objects or other integration setup
• Assign or modify classes on existing design elements or zones

Brands, asset libraries, and user groups should be created through the Design Huddle Admin Portal before managing them through the MCP Server.

For best results, use specific identifiers such as an email address, account ID, Project ID, or Template ID/code whenever possible.

For reporting requests, include a clear date range and scope: the entire environment, one account, or one user. When asking about an account or user, provide the exact account name, user name, or email address.

Before making bulk changes, first ask the MCP to find and show the matching records. After reviewing the results, provide a more specific request for the records you want to update.

For example, instead of asking to “replace this logo everywhere,” ask to replace the logo in active Templates within a specific brand or category.

The MCP tools available to an Admin may depend on your Design Huddle package, administrator permissions, AI platform or model, workspace-level plugin permissions, and safety restrictions for certain actions.

If expected tools are missing, refresh or reconnect the MCP connection.

If the MCP Server is not returning information or actions that you know should be available, try disconnecting and reconnecting the Design Huddle plugin or connector.

Updates are made regularly, and reconnecting helps ensure the AI assistant has access to the latest available tools and capabilities.
