How to use Autofit

Autofit allows text to automatically adjust in size so it fits within a fixed text box width. This is helpful when users may enter different amounts of text, but the design needs to stay within a specific layout.

Autofit is managed from the left menu for new Projects. Some legacy Projects may still show Autofit in template locking.

Common use cases include:

• Keeping text inside a fixed design area
• Preventing user-entered text from overflowing
• Maintaining consistent layouts across editable templates
• Supporting designs where text length may vary

When Autofit is enabled, Design Huddle adjusts the font size so the text fits within the text box boundaries. The text box remains the same size, and the font size decreases when more content is added.

Autofit can also include limits that control how the text should behave. These settings can help define how many lines are allowed, the maximum height of the text, what font sizes Autofit can use, and whether truncated text should include a suffix.

Autofit is available in different locations depending on the Project and client setup.

For new clients, Autofit is available in the left menu when a text box is selected.

For existing clients, new Projects will use Autofit in the left menu. Legacy Projects that previously used Autofit in the right panel may still show Autofit in the template locking settings.

Going forward, Autofit should be managed from the left menu whenever that option is available.

To enable Autofit from the left menu, follow these steps:

1. Open the Project or template in the editor.
2. Select the text box you want to update.
3. Locate Auto Fit in the left menu.
4. Toggle Auto Fit on.
5. Click the settings icon next to Auto Fit.
6. Configure the available Autofit settings.
7. Save the Project or template, if applicable.

Once enabled, the selected text box will automatically adjust the text size to help keep content within the text box.

The following settings may be available when configuring Autofit:

• Max Line Count: Sets the maximum number of lines allowed in the text box.
• Max Height: Sets the maximum height that the text content can use.
• Font Size Limits: Sets the minimum and maximum font size Autofit can use.
• Truncation Suffix: Adds a suffix, such as ellipses, when text is truncated.

When Max Height is enabled, the current height of the text box is used as the starting value. When Max Line Count is re-enabled, the current line count is used as the starting value.

Use this workflow only for legacy Projects where Autofit is still available in template locking.

To enable Autofit in template locking, follow these steps:

1. Open the template in the editor.
2. Open the right menu.
3. Select the Locking tab.
4. Confirm you are in configuration mode.
5. Select the text box you want to update.
6. Confirm that Text Content is unlocked.
7. Select the Auto Fit checkbox.
8. Click Back.
9. Save the locking configuration.

Please note that the Auto Fit checkbox only appears when Text Content is unlocked.

To change Autofit from the left menu, select the text box, open the Auto Fit settings, and update the available options.

To disable Autofit from the left menu, select the text box and toggle Auto Fit off.

For legacy Projects using template locking, return to the Locking tab, select the text box, and update the Auto Fit checkbox.

For best results, set both minimum and maximum font size limits when using Autofit.

This can help keep text readable while still allowing Autofit to adjust the content within the design.
