How to Stretch Text

Text stretching allows you to change the horizontal or vertical scale of text in the Design Huddle editor. This is helpful when imported artwork uses stretched or compressed typography that you want to preserve or adjust.

Design Huddle supports text stretching for text imported from PDF and Adobe Illustrator files.

When to Use This

Common use cases include:

  • Preserving stretched text when importing PDF or Illustrator artwork
  • Making text wider or narrower without changing the font size
  • Making text taller or shorter to better match an existing design
  • Fine-tuning imported typography directly in the editor

How It Works

When supported text is imported from a PDF or Illustrator file, its horizontal and vertical scaling can be adjusted independently.

Use the Scale X control to change the width of the text and the Scale Y control to change its height.

Changing these values stretches or compresses the text rather than changing its font size.

How to Stretch Text

To adjust text stretching, follow these steps:

  1. Import a PDF or Illustrator file containing the text you want to edit.
  2. Select the text element in the editor.
  3. Locate Scale X and Scale Y in the text settings.
  4. Adjust the Scale X slider to make the text wider or narrower.
  5. Adjust the Scale Y slider to make the text taller or shorter.

The text updates as you change each setting, allowing you to control its proportions independently.

Changing or Resetting Text Stretching

You can return to the text element at any time and adjust the Scale X or Scale Y values again.

For best results, make small adjustments when matching existing artwork. Large changes to either scale can noticeably alter the appearance and proportions of the typeface.

Text stretching is automatically available for text that was already stretched in an imported PDF or Illustrator file.

To use text stretching on text that was not previously stretched, contact support@designhuddle.com to have the required setting enabled.
