How to Set a Blend Mode on an Element

Blend modes control how two elements visually interact with each other based on their colors and transparency in a Project. When you apply a blend mode to an element, it changes how that element blends with the element(s) beneath it — creating different lighting, shading, and color effects. For example, consider placing two images on top of each other and changing how the top image "mixes" with the one underneath.

Blend Modes can be set on shapes, vectors, and raster images in Design Huddle. You can add blends to as many elements layered on top of each other as you would like.

To set blends follow these steps

  1. Click on the element you want to set a Blend for
  2. In the left menu locate the Blend field
  3. Select your Blend mode

Design Huddle offers a variety of Blend Modes listed and defined below

  • Multiply - Darkens the base layer by multiplying its colors with the blend layer. The result is always darker, with white having no effect and black creating full black.
  • Screen - Lightens the image by inverting, multiplying, and then inverting the colors again. It produces a brighter result, where black has no effect and white creates pure white.
  • Overlay - Combines Multiply and Screen to enhance contrast—dark areas become darker and light areas lighter. It's great for adding intensity without losing midtone detail.
  • Darken - Compares the base and blend layers pixel by pixel and keeps whichever color is darker. It doesn’t blend but selectively replaces lighter pixels with darker ones.
