# How to Lock a Project

Project locking allows you to control which editing options are available when someone works with a Project. You can prevent users from adding new items, lock specific attributes on individual elements, or use a locking profile to apply predefined locking settings.

This is helpful when you want to protect important parts of a Project while still allowing users to make approved changes.

 When to Use This

Common use cases include:

- Preventing users from adding new text, images, shapes, or backgrounds
- Fully locking specific elements
- Allowing only certain attributes of an element to be edited
- Applying consistent locking rules across a Project
- Using predefined locking settings through a locking profile

How to Lock the Addition of New Items

To prevent users from adding new items to the Project:

1. Open the Project in the editor.
2. Open the locking settings.
3. Lock the top-level buttons on the left, such as **Text**, **Images**, **Shapes**, or **Background**, as needed.
4. Review your locking settings.
5. Click **Save** to save the configuration.

Locking these top-level controls prevents users from adding new items through those buttons.

How to Lock an Individual Element

You can also control what users can change on a specific element.

1. Select the element you want to configure.
2. Open the locking settings for that element.
3. Click **Lock All Attributes** to fully lock the element.
4. Unlock any individual attributes you want users to be able to change.
5. If you want the same locking settings to apply to other applicable elements, select **Apply as Default**.
6. Click **Save** when you are finished.

Using **Lock All Attributes** is a quick way to protect the entire element first, then selectively allow specific changes.

 Using a Locking Profile

A locking profile allows you to automatically apply a predefined set of locking rules.

1. Open the Project locking settings.
2. Locate the **Profile** option.
3. Select the locking profile you want to use.
4. Review the locking settings applied by the profile.
5. Click **Save** to save the changes.

Once selected, the elements are locked according to the presets defined in that locking profile.

 Changing Project Locking

You can return to the locking settings at any time to change individual locks, select a different locking profile, or adjust which top-level controls are available.

When working with an individual element, you can use **Lock All Attributes** again and then unlock only the options you want users to access. Use **Apply as Default** when you want that element's locking configuration to apply to other applicable elements.

Always click **Save** after making changes so your locking configuration is saved.
