# How to create and manage locking presets

Locking presets allow you to create and save multiple locking configurations for the same element type in Design Huddle. Rather than using a single locking configuration for all elements of a particular type, you can create different presets to control how elements can be edited.

Locking presets can be configured in **Configure Locking Defaults** and applied through the Editor or programmatically using the API or MCP.

#### **When to use locking presets**

Locking presets are helpful when you want to:

- Create different editing restrictions for the same element type.
- Standardize locking rules across Projects and Templates.
- Allow different levels of editing flexibility for different users or workflows.
- Apply locking configurations programmatically using the API or MCP.

For example, you may want one image preset that allows users to replace images but prevents resizing, and another that allows resizing and repositioning.

#### **How to create a locking preset**

To create a new locking preset:

1. Open **Configure Locking Defaults**.
2. Select the element type you want to configure, such as an image, text box, or video.
3. Use the locking controls to configure which attributes and actions should be locked or unlocked.
4. To lock all available attributes, click **Lock All Attributes**. You can then unlock individual settings as needed.
5. Click **Apply as New Preset**.
6. Enter a **Preset Name** to identify the locking configuration.
7. Enter a **Preset ID** if you plan to reference the preset programmatically through the API or MCP.
8. Click **Save** to create the preset.
9. Click **Save Locking Config** to save your locking configuration.

You can repeat this process to create multiple presets for the same element type.

#### **How to update an existing preset**

If you have already created a preset, you can modify its locking configuration.

1. Select the appropriate element type.
2. Choose the existing preset from the **Locking** dropdown.
3. Adjust the locked and unlocked attributes.
4. Click **Apply to Preset** to update the selected preset.
5. Click **Save Locking Config** to save your changes.

You can also use **Manage Preset** to access preset management options.

#### **How to set a default preset**

You can designate a locking configuration as the default for an element type.

1. Select the element type you want to configure.
2. Choose the desired preset from the **Locking** dropdown.
3. Click **Set as Default**.
4. Click **Save Locking Config**.

If no additional presets have been created, you can configure the element's locking settings and apply them as the default preset.

The default preset provides the standard locking configuration for that element type unless another preset or specific locking configuration is applied.

**Important:** Locking settings configured for elements added to a zone apply only to elements added within that zone. Elements added outside the zone must have their locking configured separately.

#### **Using presets with the API or MCP**

Locking presets can also be referenced programmatically through Design Huddle's API or MCP.

When creating a preset, assigning a **Preset ID** makes it easier to identify and reference that configuration programmatically.

This allows integrations and automated workflows to apply predefined locking configurations without requiring users to configure each element manually.

#### **Notes**

- Multiple locking presets can be created for the same element type.
- Each preset can have its own combination of locked and unlocked attributes.
- Always click **Save Locking Config** after making changes.
- Changes to locking defaults do not automatically update previously published Templates. **Existing Templates must be republished** for updated locking rules to take effect.
- Locking presets can be selected and applied within the Editor.
