How to connect Design Huddle MCP to ChatGPT or Claude

The Design Huddle MCP connection allows you to access supported Design Huddle administrative tools from ChatGPT or Claude using natural-language requests.

The connection is intended for Design Huddle System Admins. It is not designed for standard Design Huddle users.

Depending on the AI platform, the Design Huddle integration may be called a plugin or connector.

Important: Design Huddle may not yet appear in the AI platform’s public plugin or connector directory. Until it does, you must add it manually as a custom plugin or connector. Our formal plugins will be available in the Claude and ChatGPT directories soon.

You will need:

• A Design Huddle administrator account.
• Your Design Huddle workspace domain.
• Access to an AI agent platform that supports custom plugins or connectors.
• Permission to add plugins or connectors in your AI assistant workspace.

Your Design Huddle MCP URL is your Design Huddle domain followed by /mcp.

For example: https://yourworkspace.designhuddle.com/mcp

Use the domain associated with your organization’s Design Huddle workspace.

Model Requirements

Use one of the following verified models with the Design Huddle MCP connection:

ChatGPT or Codex

• Minimum verified model: GPT-5.6 Luna
• Also verified: GPT-5.6 Terra, GPT-5.6 Sol, and GPT-5.5

Claude

• Minimum verified model: Claude Sonnet
• Also verified: Claude Opus 5

Models not listed above have not been verified and may not reliably complete Design Huddle MCP requests.

Shared workspaces and individual authentication

If you use a shared ChatGPT or Claude workspace, only one person may need to add the custom plugin or connector before it becomes visible to other workspace members.

However, every person must connect and authenticate using their own Design Huddle account, even if someone else added the plugin or connector.

The connection does not use a shared Design Huddle user. Each person operates within the permissions of their own Design Huddle account. Users will only be able to access or change information that their Design Huddle permissions allow.

If you use a personal ChatGPT or Claude account, you will need to add the custom plugin or connector yourself.

Overriding the MCP workspace name

If your organization has multiple Design Huddle workspaces, or if your AI workspace requires the MCP connection to use an approved or whitelisted name, Design Huddle can override the default MCP workspace name.

Contact Design Huddle Support and provide:

• The Design Huddle workspace or workspaces that need to be updated.
• The MCP workspace name you want to use.

This can also be used when your organization needs the Design Huddle name removed or replaced with a specific name for its MCP connection.

To add Design Huddle as a custom connector in Claude:

1. Open Claude.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Connectors.
4. Click Add custom connector.
5. Enter a name for the connector. We recommend using the name of your Design Huddle workspace so it is easy to identify.
6. Enter your Design Huddle MCP URL: https://your-domain/mcp
7. Add or create the connector.
8. Keep the default settings for Authentication, then click Add
9. When redirected to Design Huddle, log in using your own Design Huddle account.
10. Confirm that the correct name and email address are displayed.
11. Review and agree to the Responsible Use Terms, then click Allow connection.
12. Return to Claude after authorization is complete.

Use Design Huddle in Claude

After connecting:

1. Start a new conversation in Claude.
2. Make sure your Design Huddle connector is available to the conversation.
3. Enter your request.

Claude can then use the supported Design Huddle tools available to your account.

We recommend completing the initial setup from the web version of ChatGPT. The desktop application setup experience may be less reliable.

To add Design Huddle as a custom plugin in ChatGPT:

1. Open ChatGPT in your web browser.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Plugins.
4. Click the plus sign to add a custom plugin.
5. Enter a name for the plugin. We recommend using the name of your Design Huddle workspace.
6. Enter your Design Huddle MCP URL: https://your-domain/mcp
7. Leave the remaining settings at their defaults unless your organization provides different instructions.
8. Complete any required acknowledgment or checkbox.
9. Click Create.
10. When redirected to Design Huddle, log in using your own Design Huddle account.
11. Confirm that the correct name and email address are displayed.
12. Review and agree to the Responsible Use Terms, then click Allow connection.
13. Return to ChatGPT after authorization is complete.

If you do not see the option to add a plugin, contact your ChatGPT workspace administrator. Your AI plan, workspace settings, or permission level may prevent you from adding custom plugins yourself.

Use Design Huddle in ChatGPT

After connecting:

1. Start a new conversation in ChatGPT.
2. Open the plugin selection menu.
3. Select the plugin named for your Design Huddle workspace.
4. Enter your request.

Selecting the plugin allows ChatGPT to use the supported Design Huddle tools during that conversation.

Before completing actions through ChatGPT or Claude, keep the following in mind:

• Your existing permissions still apply. The AI assistant operates as the Design Huddle user who authenticated the connection.
• Authentication is individual. A plugin or connector may be shared across an AI workspace, but your Design Huddle login and permissions are not shared.
• Available tools may vary. The actions available to you depend on your Design Huddle package, administrator permissions, AI platform, and AI plan.
• Some AI plans may not support custom connections. If the option is unavailable, check your plan or contact your AI workspace administrator.
• Review actions before approving them. Requests that update, archive, delete, or process multiple items can affect your Design Huddle workspace.
• Use extra care with bulk requests. Clearly identify the intended accounts, users, projects, templates, approvals, or assets before authorizing a large change.
• The AI platform controls its approval experience. Confirmation prompts and safeguards may differ between ChatGPT and Claude.

If the MCP Server is not returning information or actions that you know should be available, try disconnecting and reconnecting the Design Huddle plugin or connector.

Updates are made regularly, and reconnecting helps ensure the AI assistant has access to the latest available tools and capabilities.
