Spot colors are used when you need exact color matching for print materials. They are often used for brand colors or specific Pantone shades. By applying spot colors, you can ensure color consistency across every print.
This article will walk you through how to apply spot colors using an external design tool and import them into Design Huddle.
- Create your design using a supported tool
Start by designing your file in a tool that supports spot colors, such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Figma, etc. Each tool has a different way of applying and naming spot colors. Be sure to correctly name the swatch and apply the spot color to the elements in your design.
- Export your design as a PDF
Once your design is complete and your spot colors are applied, export the file as a PDF. This is important; only PDF files will retain the spot color information when uploaded to Design Huddle.
- Import into Design Huddle
Upload your PDF into Design Huddle using the PDF import tool. Your spot colors will automatically carry over and display in the editor as defined.
- Manually assign or edit spot color names in the Design Huddle Editor
You can also manually assign or edit the spot color name directly in the Design Huddle editor. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Click on the asset you want to assign a spot color to
- In the left panel, select Fill
- Locate the field labeled Optional spot color name
- Enter the name of the spot color exactly as it was defined in your original design file
*Spot color support must be enabled for your account. Please contact support@designhuddle.com if you would like this feature turned on.
