# How to apply locking presets and defaults in the Editor

Design Huddle allows you to control which elements users can edit within a Project or Template. You can lock individual attributes, apply locking configurations across multiple elements, or select from previously created locking presets.

Locking can be applied to a single element or used as a default for similar elements across specific pages or an entire Project.

#### **How to lock an individual element**

To configure locking for a specific element:

1. Open your Project in the Design Huddle Editor.
2. Select the element you want to lock.
3. Click the **Lock** icon to access the locking controls.
4. In the right menu, choose which attributes or actions should be locked or unlocked.
5. To prevent all changes, click **Lock All Attributes**. You can then unlock individual attributes that you want users to modify.
6. Click **Save Locking Config** to save your changes.

These settings apply to the selected element unless you choose to apply them more broadly.

#### **How to apply an existing locking preset**

If locking presets have already been configured, you can apply them directly within the Editor.

1. Select the element you want to configure.
2. Open the **Locking** controls in the right menu.
3. Locate the **Locking** dropdown.
4. Select **Default** or choose a specific locking preset.
5. Review the locking settings associated with the selected preset.
6. Click **Save Locking Config** to save your changes.

This allows different elements of the same type to use different locking configurations.

For example, one image can use a preset that prevents repositioning, while another can use a preset that allows repositioning but restricts other actions.

#### **How to apply locking as a default**

Instead of locking each element individually, you can apply a locking configuration to other elements of the same type.

1. Select an element and configure its locking attributes.
2. Click **Set as Default**.
3. In the locking defaults window, choose the **Page Context**:
     - **All Pages:** Apply the configuration across all pages in the Project.
     - **This Page:** Apply the configuration only to the current page.
     - **All Non-overridden Pages:** Apply the configuration to pages that do not have their own locking defaults.
4. Choose whether the configuration should apply to new elements only or also overwrite the locking of existing elements.
5. Click **Apply**.
6. Click **Save Locking Config** to save your changes.

This is useful when you want consistent editing restrictions without manually configuring every element.

#### **How to change locking for existing and new elements**

When applying locking defaults, you can control whether the changes affect elements that already exist or only elements added later.

- **New elements:** Apply the selected locking configuration to newly added elements of the same type.
- **Existing elements:** Choose to overwrite existing locking configurations when you want the new rules applied more broadly.

You can also limit these changes to the current page, all pages, or pages without their own locking overrides.

#### **How to preview locking restrictions**

You can use **Quick Preview** to review how the locking configuration affects editing.

1. Select the element you want to review.
2. Open the **Locking** controls.
3. Click **Quick Preview**.
4. Review the available editing actions based on the configured locks.

This is helpful for verifying that users will have the intended level of editing flexibility.

#### **Best practices**

- **Use presets for consistency:** Apply predefined locking configurations when multiple elements need the same restrictions.
- **Use individual locking for exceptions:** Configure an element separately when it requires different editing permissions.
- **Choose the appropriate page scope:** Use **This Page** for page-specific restrictions and **All Non-overridden Pages** when you want to preserve existing page-level overrides.
- **Review before publishing:** Use **Quick Preview** to confirm that the appropriate attributes are locked or unlocked.

#### **Notes**

- Locking presets can be created and managed through **Configure Locking Defaults**.
- Different elements of the same type can use different locking presets.
- Locking configurations for elements added within zones are managed separately from elements added outside zones.
- Always click **Save Locking Config** after making changes.
- **Previously published Templates must be republished** to reflect changes to locking defaults.
