How to Anchor an Element to a Text Box
Text anchoring allows you to attach an element to a text box so the element maintains its vertical spacing when the text box grows or moves. This is helpful when building templates where text length may vary from user to user.
Common use cases include:
- Maintaining spacing between a headline, paragraph, and supporting design elements
- Creating templates with variable text lengths, such as names, bios, event details, descriptions, or disclaimers
- Preventing elements below editable text from overlapping when additional lines are added
- Keeping a line, shape, image, or other text positioned consistently below a text box
When an element is anchored to a text box, it will move vertically with that text box. For example, if the text box expands because more lines are added, the anchored element below it will move down while maintaining the vertical distance you set.
Please note that text anchoring only supports vertical positioning. Elements cannot be anchored to the right or left side of a text box.
How Text Anchoring Works
Text anchoring is designed for elements positioned below a text box. If the text box grows or moves, the anchored element will move with it based on the vertical distance that was configured.
If an anchored element is positioned above the text box, adding more lines to the text box may drag the element downward over the text box. For best results, place the element below the text box before anchoring it.
How to Anchor an Element to a Text Box
To anchor an element to a text box, follow these steps:
- Select the element you want to anchor to a text box.
- In the left menu, click Anchor to Text Element.
- Select the text box you want to anchor the element to.
- Set the vertical distance you want between the selected element and the text box.
Once configured, the selected element will remain anchored to the text box using the vertical distance you set.
Removing an Anchor
You can remove the text anchor from the same anchoring settings in the left menu. Select the anchored element, open the Anchor to Text Element option, and remove the anchor as needed.
Best Practices
For best results, position the element below the text box before anchoring it. This helps ensure the element moves down naturally when the text box expands.
Text anchoring is especially useful when working with editable text fields in templates, since the final amount of text may vary depending on the user or the data being populated into the design.
